{"id":86,"date":"2014-01-05T22:18:49","date_gmt":"2014-01-05T22:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/?p=86"},"modified":"2014-01-06T00:06:32","modified_gmt":"2014-01-06T00:06:32","slug":"rslinx-backup-restore-utility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/?p=86","title":{"rendered":"RSLinx Backup Restore Utility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The RSLinx Backup Restore Utility will allow you to easily backup your driver configuration.\u00a0 There are several reasons, you may want to use this utility&#8230;\u00a0 Remember, you may have several drivers configured with many IP Addresses or Host Names under each driver.<\/p>\n<p>A)\u00a0 If you get a new laptop into your shop, you may want to backup the drivers on the old laptop to a USB drive.\u00a0 Then you can restore the driver configuration to your new laptop.<\/p>\n<p>B)\u00a0 Drivers are very easy to delete.\u00a0 If you had many IP Addresses under a particular driver, and it is deleted, this utility can save you a lot of time and a lot of research if you had the driver configuration previously backed up.<\/p>\n<p>C)\u00a0 Maybe you suspect a problem with a corrupt system, and need to re-image your workstation.\u00a0 You will want to be sure your drivers are backed up, so they can be restored after the re-image operation is complete.<\/p>\n<p>D) If you have problems communicating with a certain processor or other equipment, once you have a known configuration, you can back up the known configuration that works with that equipment, and the next time you need to communicate, you can restore the configuration to a known state that works with that processor.<\/p>\n<p>Please understand that this is a <strong>separate<\/strong> utility from the RSLinx communication server itself.<\/p>\n<p>1) To access the Backup Restore Utility, click Start | All Programs | Rockwell Software | RSLinx | Backup Restore Utility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BRU.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-87\" alt=\"BRU\" src=\"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BRU.png\" width=\"228\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0 Choose &#8220;Backup&#8221; to back up your current driver configuration, then you will be prompted where to save the file.\u00a0 Choose your location, and file name, then press &#8220;Save&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/savebru.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-88\" alt=\"savebru\" src=\"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/savebru-300x186.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/savebru-300x186.png 300w, http:\/\/ethernetsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/savebru.png 428w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Your backup is now complete.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also a good idea to save your backup onto your server, or a USB drive in case your workstation ever fails!<\/p>\n<p>To restore the configuration, just open the Backup Restore Utility, and hit the &#8220;Restore&#8221; button&#8230;.\u00a0 Browse to your backup file, and your drivers will be restored to the state of when the backup was made.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:\u00a0 RSLinx must close and re-open to restore drivers.\u00a0\u00a0 The utility will warn you of this.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The RSLinx Backup Restore Utility will allow you to easily backup your driver configuration.\u00a0 There are several reasons, you may want to use this utility&#8230;\u00a0 Remember, you may have several drivers configured with many IP Addresses or Host Names under each driver.
